Saturday 8th June at St James' Benwell


Festival begins 11.30am

BBQ lunch, crafts, stalls, historic graveyard tours, art exhibition, music, raffle.


Eucharist with Bishop Helen-Ann at 2pm

Followed by refreshments


You are invited to join us for the Diocesan Mothers' Union festival which we have the pleasure of hosting at St James Benwell this year. There will be activities followed Bishop Helen-Ann leading us in worship with a Eucharist. Visiting clergy are invited to robe.


This year the festival's theme is 'The MU does Something Wonderful' in honour of the community project at St James which aims to strengthen the local community in Benwell and restore the St James Church for community use. You can read more about the project and donate here >


Information


When & Where?

  • Saturday 8 June 2024, St James’ Church Benwell, NE 15 6RS  Festival starts at 11.30am. Eucharist at 2pm


Driving:

  • Put NE15 6RS into Google Maps or your Sat Nav

  • If you use “what3words” then it is ///larger.expand.toward

  • There is a drop off layby outside the church if you need to drop off someone with limited mobility.

Bus:

  • From Newcastle Central Station: Stagecoach buses 31 or 30 towards Slatyford. Buses run every 20 minutes and the stop is directly outside the church.

Parking

  • There is free parking at the West End Library (on the cross-road) or at Lidl (opposite the church). There is also plenty of on street parking (see pink lines on map)

  • there is also lots of on street parking (look for the pink on the map to indicate parking areas)

Access

  • There is level access throughout the church and hall from the pavement outside

  • There is a ramp to the toilets and an accessible toilet

What will there be to do?

  • The Festival is a chance for you to meet up with friends from across the diocese, see some of the wonderful work going on in Benwell, browse the stalls and have a bite to eat before the service. Please do join us from 11.30 onwards to make this day something wonderful!

  • There will be stalls and craft activities (children are very welcome)

  • There will be a BBQ lunch provided (donation of “pay what you can afford”)

What can I do to help?

  • If you would like to help on the day, donate a cake for the cake stall or run a stall to raise funds for Mothers’ Union Newcastle & the Something Wonderful project, please contact Leahan by email: garratt34@btinternet.com

What shall I bring?

  • As part of Thy Kingdom come 2024, MU are asking members to “Pray for 5, Invite 1”. Why not invite a friend to this event?

  • We will not be processing the banners, but we welcome any banners to be displayed in the church. We know that banners are heavy and many are now very delicate, so please do not feel you have to bring your branch banner.

  • We will take cash or card for any payments & donations. All money taken on the day will be split equally between Mothers’ Union Newcastle and the Something Wonderful project.

  • If you wish, you can donate a raffle prize – we welcome any prizes that can be eaten or drunk!

  • Bring your own bag to take away your raffle winnings or any cakes you buy

  • The church is old and does not have heating, it will be colder in the church than outside! Please bring a warm coat or blanket.


Visiting clergy

  • Visiting clergy are invited to robe for the service and join the procession.

  • Please bring a white stole and alb (or cassock/surplice if you prefer).
